Mechanical properties vary significantly with carbon content, heat treatment (e.g., normalizing, quenching + tempering), and processing methods (hot-rolled/cold-drawn):
Tensile Strength: ≥440 MPa
Yield Strength: ≥370 MPa
Elongation (Post-Fracture): ≥15%
Hardness: 120--180 HB (untreated)
Typical Applications: Bolts, shafts, cold-formed components.
Hot-Rolled Condition:
Tensile Strength: ≥620 MPa
Yield Strength: ≥450 MPa
Elongation: ≥12%
Hardness: 170--210 HB
Quenched + Tempered Condition:
Tensile Strength: 800--1000 MPa
Hardness: 25--35 HRC
Typical Applications: Gears, connecting rods, high-strength mechanical parts.
Annealed Condition:
Tensile Strength: ≥700 MPa
Elongation: ≥10%
Hardness: 200--250 HB
Quenched + Low-Temperature Tempered:
Tensile Strength: 1200--1500 MPa
Hardness: 55--65 HRC (high hardness, low toughness)
Typical Applications: Springs, cutting tools, high-wear resistance components.
